Past Projects

As a museum we are always looking at creative ways to generate revenue. Not only for operating costs but for actual restoration projects, event planning and travelling exhibit opportunities.

1999 = Ranger Station added to village

2003 = Reception Gallery built

2006 = World of Wildlife is built

2012 = Trapper Cabin (Replica) is built

2012 = Chapel (Replica) is built

2013 = Village Stage is built

2014 = Peace Pole installed

2014 = Digital Sign purchased

2015 = Fence Project begins

2015 = Art Mural Project begins

2015 = Fundraising for museum addition begins - land purchased

2016 = Barn repainted

2016 = Replace reception gallery and wildlife exhibit lights to LED

2016 = Blacksmith shop renovated 

2017 = Ranger Station stove restored

2017 = Ranger Station hole in roof gable repaired

2017 = Reception Gallery General Store renovated

2017 = Pioneer House wooden sidewalk removed 

2017 = Ferryman House repaint

2017 = Administration Office repainted

2017 = Refresh museum website

2018 = Bergen Schoolhouse steps replaced

2018 = Upgrade security system and emergency lighting

2018 = Reception Gallery & Wildlife roof replacement including eves and downspouts

2018 = Time Capsule

2018 = Metis Exhibit Revitalization

2018 = Whiskers becomes museum mascot and gets his own Instagram page

2019 = Youth Building renamed Round Building - facility rental space, equipped with public wifi, LED lights

2019 = Round Building water fountain repaired

2019 = Gathering area sidewalk - connecting round building to gallery

2019 = Install gallery AED

2019 = Modify Gallery entrance for limited mobility visitors

2019 = 3 large village trees removed due to age and health

2020 = Village exterior solar lights installed

2020 = Reception Gallery South wall & door re-painted

2020 = Barn concession modified for Timeless Antique Photo Booth (Costumes, props, and set)

2020 = Gathering area gravel and rock fill

2020 = Memorial Tree installed for Volunteers

2020 = Women of Aspenland Exhibit Revitalization

2021 = Village ground and garden - identification

2021 = Reception Gallery - Reception Renovation

2021 = Reception Gallery - Storage Space

2021 = Ranger Station chimney refurbish

2021 = Museum Programming

Current Projects

There is ALWAYS something to upgrade or repair. We are able to provide charitable tax receipts to those that donate.

Our facilities take a minimum of one hour to tour so we truly recommend scheduling your visit with this in mind.

Regular Business Hours
are Tuesday - Saturday. 10 am - 5 pm 

Please note: As a rural museum we can sometimes close due to weather or staffing so if you are travelling feel free to call ahead to avoid any disappointment.

Our facility is accessible for those with limited physical mobility

The Sundre & District Historical Society would like to acknowledge that the Sundre & District Museum is located on Treaty 6 and 7 territories which have been the traditional meeting ground, gathering place and travelling route for the Blackfoot Confederacy, Tsuu t'ina, Stoney Nakota and the Otipemiswak Battle River Territory District 3 Métis. We also wish to publicly acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
